Joseph L. Follette, Jr.
M.Div., M.S., LMFT-CEO

Having come from a line of preachers, Joseph L. Follette, Jr. (Joe) is a third generation minister. His grandfather L. S. Follette, Sr. was the first treasurer of the newly formed South Atlantic Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. His father, Joseph L. Follette, Sr. was responsible for building many churches, church schools and baptizing hundreds.

Joe inherited his forefathers heart for ministry. He followed their same path by completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology from Oakwood University in 1982. He went on to complete a Master’s degree in Divinity from Andrews University in 1989 and later completed courses toward a Ph.D. in Leadership from Andrews University. Joe served as an ordained minister employed by the South Central Conference of Seventh-day Adventists from 1986 to 1997. He pastored several churches in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Mississippi. God blessed Joseph abundantly during his years of church ministry. From 1995-2011 Follette was commissioned in the US Army as a Chaplain Candidate and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant.

It was during his early years of ministry that Joe heard God calling him in a slightly different direction. Following that call, he earned a Master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from The University of Southern Mississippi in 1998 and has studied toward his doctorate in Marriage & Family Therapy at Amridge University. In addition to becoming a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, he become an Approved Supervisor for the Alabama Board of Examiners in Marriage & Family Therapy. Following his calling away from pastoral ministry into counseling ministry, Joe accepted a call to serve as an Oakwood University resident hall director in Huntsville Alabama. As a dean he motivated hundreds of young men to follow God’s call on their life and completed his licensing hours counseling students.

Joe opened his private Marriage & Family Therapy practice in 1999. He provides individual, family and group therapy for diverse populations. He has developed several community programs such as an anger management program for the Madison City Schools and an Alabama state certified drug treatment program for the Madison County Department of Human Resources. His main focus of late has been helping couples recover from affairs and sexual addictions.

One of Joe’s favorite gifts is teaching. He has taught many church marriage seminars. Joe has taught classes at the University of Southern Mississippi, Alabama A & M University and Huntsville Bible College. He he has served as Family Counselor for Bradford Health Services, a substance abuse treatment facility. He has served on the board of Madison County Coalition for Healthy Marriages, been involved with the NAACP and served on other community boards through the years.

In Joe’s first book, “The Sizzle Mindset: Seven Secrets to Keep Passion Alive in Your Marriage“, he shares his years of experience leading couples to return to love.
Joe is happily married with five children and 2 dogs. Recognizing that life is full of ups and downs, Joe’s favorite passage from the Bible is “We know that all things work together for the good of those who love the Lord and are called to do his purpose”. Romans 8:28 He continues to see the mercy of God in his life and is anxious to share God’s grace with others.
