Joseph L. Follette, Jr., M.Div., M.S., LMFT
Having come from a line of preachers, Joseph L. Follette, Jr. (Joe) is a third generation minister. His grandfather L. S. Follette, Sr. was the first treasurer of the newly formed South Atlantic Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. His father, Joseph L. Follette, Sr. was responsible for building many churches, church schools and baptizing hundreds.
Joe inherited his forefathers heart for ministry. He followed their same path by completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology from Oakwood University in 1982. He went on to complete a Master’s degree in Divinity from Andrews University in 1989 and later completed courses toward a Ph.D. in Leadership from Andrews University. Joe served as an ordained minister employed by the South Central Conference of Seventh-day Adventists from 1986 to 1997. He pastored several churches in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Mississippi. God blessed Joseph abundantly during his years of church ministry.
It was during these early years of ministry that Joe heard God calling him in a slightly different direction. Following that call, he earned another Master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from The University of Southern Mississippi in 1998 and has studied toward his doctorate in Marriage & Family Therapy at Amridge University. In addition to becoming a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist has also become an Approved Supervisor for the Alabama Board of Examiners in Marriage & Family Therapy where he supervises students working to become Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists. Following his calling away from pastoral ministry into counseling ministry Joe accepted a call to serve as an Oakwood University resident hall director in Huntsville Alabama. As a dean he motivated hundreds of young men to follow God’s call on their life. During this time he automated most of the residence hall administrative processes. Joe has a passion for technology and along with building websites that aid in the therapy process he is developing a practice management system called SizzPro.
Joe opened his private Marriage & Family Therapy practice in 1999. He provides individual, family and group therapy for diverse populations. He has developed several community programs such as an anger management program for the Madison City Schools and an Alabama state certified drug treatment program for the Madison County Department of Human Resources. His main focus of late has been helping couples reignite the flame in their marriage.
From 1995-2001 Follette served as a commissioned officer as a Chaplain Candidate and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in the US Army. He has heart for veterans and continually offers services to those who have served our country.
One of Joe’s favorite gifts is teaching. He hopes to serve as a University professor in his retirement years. Joe has taught classes at the University of Southern Mississippi, Alabama A & M University and Huntsville Bible College. He he has served as Family Counselor for Bradford Health Services, a substance abuse treatment facility. He has served on the board of Madison County Coalition for Healthy Marriages, been involved with the NAACP and served on other community boards through the years.

Follette provides premarital packages that includes premarital counseling and the marriage ceremony. Everyone enjoys his classy style, romantic singing and profound homily during his wedding ceremonies. Follette also does public speaking and develops seminars that are inspiring, educating and encouraging. He does seminars and workshops on topics including marriage, relationships, business, health and youth. His marriage retreats are A+ and couples always leave refreshed and revived. He offers corporate wellness talks, team building events and is available for corporate employee relations consulting. He is available to consult with pastors desiring a more loving environment in their church and desiring to transform their ministry to become more relevant to the community in which they reside.
Joe’s first book, “The Sizzle Mindset: Seven Secrets to Keep the Passion in Your Marriage“, is scheduled to be released soon. In this book he shares his years of experience leading couples to return to love.
Joe is happily married with five children and 2 dogs. Recognizing that life is full of ups and downs, Joe’s favorite passage from the Bible is “We know that all things work together for the good of those who love the Lord and are called to do his purpose”. Romans 8:28 He continues to see the mercy of God in his life and is anxious to share God’s grace with others.
